The merit – gender conundrum

In December 2016 Ban Ki-moon, current UN Secretary-General, will leave office as his term expires. Since early 2015 campaign groups have been calling for the next UNSG to be a woman (@She4SG), to be elected with greater transparency and involvement by the General Assembly (@1for7billion) or to be limited to one seven-year term (@TheElders).
