My research focuses on terrorism and counterterrorism in France, with a particular interest on how women involved in political violence are portrayed and understood. Alongside my academic work, I also provide media commentary on the evolving and often turbulent world of French politics. I have been a regular contributor to France 24 and TRT since 2017 to discuss French politics. I have covered all the elections and the main crisis of the past 10 years (including the Yellow Vest, Covid, the Pension protests, the farmers’ protests and the recent political instability). I have also appeared in Al-Jazeera, Sky News, and the Fox network, and contributed to written comments to various media, including CNN, Australian newspapers, and Spanish online news sites.

My research focuses on international organisations and international order, specifically around the UN. Previously, I have published on leadership in the UN, focussing on the UN Secretary-General and women, today I research the visual and material construction of international community, and the dismantling and resilience of the liberal international order.
My research explores the intersections of discourse, identity, and political violence, with a particular focus on how racialised and gendered narratives shape understandings of and responses to terrorism, counterterrorism, and security. My work spans the representation of politically violent women, the lived experience of gendered Islamophobia, the securitisation of Muslim communities, the religious soft power strategies of states, and the ideological underpinnings of counterterrorism strategies.
